Meet India

I’m India, the florist and creative director behind Thistle & String.
Thistle & String began in 2017 from my tiny top-floor flat in Tunbridge Wells, where I somehow managed to carry endless buckets of flowers up three flights of stairs and turn every corner of the flat into a makeshift studio. What started as a small creative idea has naturally grown into a floral studio creating weddings and events across the UK.
Before floristry, I studied fine art and sculpture, and that background continues to shape the way I design today. I’ve always been drawn to shape, movement, texture and the way flowers can completely transform the atmosphere of a space. I approach each wedding or event with an artistic eye, considering not only the flowers themselves, but how everything flows together within the setting as a whole.
My style is inspired by the changing seasons, the landscape, and the natural movement of flowers. I love creating designs that feel romantic, abundant and modern. For me, the most beautiful floristry never feels overly styled, it feels effortless, immersive and connected to its surroundings.
Before founding Thistle & String, I trained with some incredible florists including Petersham Nurseries, Paul Thomas, Moyses Stevens and Floward, whose influence helped shape my approach and understanding of floral design.
What I love most is collaborating with clients to create something that feels deeply personal to them, flowers that not only look beautiful, but truly shape the feeling and experience of the day.
